What storm damage actually looks like on an Atlanta roof

Some storm damage is obvious. A lot of it isn't, at least not until the next heavy rain finds it.

Hail damage

Hail rarely punches a hole in a shingle. It bruises it. The impact fractures the mat under the surface and knocks loose the granules that protect the asphalt from UV. The roof can look fine from the driveway while those spots age fast.

Wind damage

Creased or lifted shingles, missing tabs, exposed nails and seal strips that have let go, leaving shingles free to flap and tear in the next gust.

Fallen limbs and debris

Punctures, cracked decking, and damaged gutters and flashing where branches or blown debris came down on the roof.

Leaks that show up later

Ceiling stains, wet attic insulation, and peeling paint near the roofline, sometimes weeks after the storm has passed.

Making the call

Repair or replace after a storm?

Repair usually makes sense when
  • Damage is limited to a few areas
  • The roof is fairly young
  • The decking is sound

Replacement is worth discussing when
  • Hail bruising is spread across most slopes
  • The roof is near the end of its life
  • Repairs would leave a patchwork that won't match

  4. Schedule the adjusterHave your roofer there for the visit if you can.

Questions

Storm damage FAQ

Does an inspection commit me to filing a claim?

No. An inspection is information. You decide separately whether to file a claim.

Will you tell me if my roof doesn't have storm damage?

Yes. We show you the photos and tell you plainly whether it's storm damage, wear, or nothing at all. Plenty of inspections end with "your roof is fine."

My roof looks fine from the ground. Could it still have hail damage?

It can. Hail tends to bruise shingles rather than puncture them, fracturing the mat and knocking loose protective granules. Those spots are hard to see from the driveway but age faster.

Is my wind/hail deductible the same as my regular deductible?

Often it isn't. Check your policy or ask your carrier before you file so you know what to expect.

Can you tarp my roof if it's leaking right now?

Emergency tarping to stop active leaks is part of our storm service. [CONFIRM: emergency tarping availability and response time]

Which areas do you serve?

Holly Springs, Canton, Woodstock, Marietta, Alpharetta and the surrounding north metro Atlanta area.
